From October 2021 through June 2023, the North Carolina Department of Commerce conducted a ‘Business Pulse Survey,’ which asked business leaders to provide ongoing, timely insights into conditions in the state.
The survey, the first of its kind ever undertaken by the Department of Commerce, started as North Carolina was navigating economic changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Staffing levels and remote work were of particular interest.

The Business Pulse Survey was a product of the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Labor and Economic Analysis Division (LEAD), in partnership with the NCWorks Commission and myFutureNC. Funding support was also provided by the Duke Energy Foundation.
