This meeting offered information and a chance to provide input on a proposed recovery Action Plan for western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. Specifically, this proposed Action Plan, a required step for obtaining a $1.4 billion federal disaster recovery grant, will be submitted to the U.S. Housing and Urban Development agency (HUD) for approval, after which our state team will take the next steps toward opening the program for applications and active rebuilding work
- The federal grant comes from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development agency (HUD), through its Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery program (CDBG-DR).
- The new Division of Community Revitalization within our agency will administer this CDBG-DR grant designed to address unmet hurricane recovery needs in Western North Carolina, with a particular focus on housing.
- The application process for this program has not yet started and no funds are yet in hand from the federal government.
