Governor McCrory Designates November 2-6 State Apprenticeship Week

Raleigh, N.C.

North Carolina is committed to helping businesses prosper and workers grow stronger through the use of apprenticeship programs, according to a proclamation signed by Governor Pat McCrory announcing November 2-6 as National and State Apprenticeship Week.

“Thousands of North Carolina employers start each day with an advantage over their competitors because they’re using apprenticeships,” said Governor McCrory. “We remain committed to supporting apprenticeships, our universities, and our community colleges to ensure North Carolina’s workforce is receiving high-quality job training, our businesses are becoming more profitable, and our state’s economy remains competitive and strong.”

Apprenticeships combine on-the-job and classroom training, helping apprentices learn the skills of an industry without incurring large amounts of student debt. Employers can use these programs to close the skills gap by training their workers in the way that meets their business needs. In North Carolina, companies must register programs with NCWorks Apprenticeship. Together, the two parties determine the training covered in the program and the wages apprentices will be paid.

Companies and apprenticeship groups across the state will promote the advantages of apprenticeships to highlight both National and State Apprenticeship Week. For more information, visit http://www.nccommerce.com/wf/businesses/apprenticeship.
