hurst, N.C. - With the U.S. Women’s Open beginning this week, the state of North Carolina has developed a video presentation that highlights the coordinated efforts of several state agencies in preparation for the events. It is estimated that more than 350,000 people will attend the U.S. Open and the U.S. Women’s Open in Pinehurst during the unprecedented back-to-back events. The USGA estimates the total economic impact of the two championships will be between $140-$170 million.
State departments including Commerce, Cultural Resources, Health and Human Services, Public Safety and Transportation joined forces to make sure North Carolina was ready to host the two weeks of events.
The video features Governor Pat McCrory along with the secretary of each department outlining their agency’s involvement, as well as some of the improvements that were completed to prepare for the U.S. Open Championships.
The video will be posted on nc.gov and other agency websites.
The U.S. Open took place at the historic Pinehurst No. 2 course June 9-15 and will be followed by the U.S. Women’s Open June 17-22. Staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA), the U.S. Open is the annual open golf tournament of the United States. It is the second of the four major championships in golf, and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
