Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Beardow Adams Inc., a leading manufacturer of hot melt adhesives, will locate its new facility in Mecklenburg County. The company plans to create 31 jobs and invest more than $5.1 million over the next five years in Charlotte. The project was made possible in part by a $37,600 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

“My top priority is creating jobs,” said Gov. Perdue. “Our investments in job training programs and top-notch workforce have created a strong business climate that allows manufacturers to thrive in a global economy.”

Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be $52,984, plus benefits.  The Mecklenburg County average annual wage is $51,792.

Beardow Adams, headquartered in Milton Keynes, U.K., was founded in 1977 by Len Beardow and Bob Adams. The company produces hot melt adhesives which are sold throughout the world. Beardow Adams currently operates Europe’s largest hot melt production plant in Milton Keynes. It has a subsidiary in Barcelona, Spain which manufactures water-based adhesives.

“This announcement is great news for all of our staff, great news for the local community and it is a superb platform for our continued future growth,” said Nick Beardow, Sales and Marketing Director for Beardow Adams. “Everyone is excited with the news of opening a new factory in Charlotte.”

The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds.  These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.

North Carolina continues to have a top-ranked business climate. Through Gov. Perdue’s JobsNOW initiative, the state works aggressively to create jobs, train and retrain its workforce, and lay the foundation for a strong and sustainable economic future.

Through use of the One NC Fund, more than 60,000 jobs and $11 billion in investment have been created since 2001.  Other partners that helped with this project include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, Mecklenburg County, City of Charlotte and the Charlotte Chamber.
