North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, North Carolina Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) announced today that TTI Floor Care N.A., the marketer and manufacturer of the iconic Hoover, Dirt Devil and Oreck brands, will create 200 jobs over the coming two years and an investment of up to $5 million for a new Center of Excellence for Marketing & Innovation in Mecklenburg County.
“We welcome TTI Floor Care and its storied brands to our state,” said Governor McCrory. “North Carolina, and specifically the Charlotte metro region, is a prime location for consumer products companies like TTI Floor Care to be successful.”
TTI Floor Care is a global leader in consumer and commercial floor care appliances including upright vacuum cleaners, carpet washers, hard floor cleaners and handheld vacuums. The company maintains this leadership position by combining highly valued brands with the latest in design and performance technology, exemplified by a new range of Hoover Cordless cleaners.
“Following an extensive evaluation process, we chose Charlotte because it provides access to talent with the critical consumer products expertise needed to fuel the growth of our iconic brands,” said Gary Scott, President of TTI Floor Care N.A. “We want to express our appreciation to Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and the state of North Carolina for supporting our expansion into the region.”
“North Carolina’s talent, global accessibility and competitive business costs are bringing 200 exciting career opportunities to Charlotte,” said Sec. Skvarla. “Today’s announcement is proof that our state remains a prime destination for 21st Century businesses.”
Compensation will vary by job function, but the average annual compensation for the new positions is expected to be approximately $103,618 plus benefits. The overall average wage in Mecklenburg County is $59,882.
An award from the state’s Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) program to TTI Floor Care helped make the project possible. Approved today by the Economic Investment Committee, the award may total as much as $3.7 million from 2016 through 2027 upon the creation of 200 jobs. Receipt of the award is based on state-certified proof of job creation and other performance requirements. JDIGs reimburse new and expanding companies a portion of the newly created tax-base stemming from their operations.
Approximately $1.2 million in additional funds from the company’s JDIG award could be added to the state’s Utility Fund for infrastructure improvements in less populated counties. When a JDIG is awarded to a company whose site is located in the state’s more populated, economically prosperous counties such as Mecklenburg, a percentage of the company’s grant is allocated to the Utility Fund to encourage economic development in Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties. In addition to N.C. Commerce and the EDPNC, numerous partners helped support the project. They include the North Carolina Community College System, NCWorks, Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte and Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
