Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Northeast Foods Inc., a national contract baker for the commercial and fast-food industries, will open a new bakery operation in Johnston County.  The company plans to invest $25.4 million and create 84 jobs during the next two years in Clayton.  The new bakery operation is made possible in part by a $350,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.  

Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco today announced that 13 communities received a total of $830,330 in Community Development Block Grant funds to connect 200 low- and moderate-income households to public water and/or sewer lines.  The Infrastructure Hook-Up Program enables local governments to connect low- and moderate-income households to existing public water and/or sewer lines, provided the existing lines were not constructed with CDBG funds.  The maximum grant amount is $75,000. 

Gov. Bev Perdue announced today that Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings Inc., a national provider of medical laboratory testing services, will open a new billing operations office in Guilford County.  The company will create 346 jobs and invest $4 million during the next three years in Greensboro.  The project was made possible in part by a $275,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.    

Gov. Bev Perdue today signed an executive order establishing the North Carolina Motorsports Advisory Council.  The council will advise the Governor on ways to strengthen the industry and recruit new motorsports jobs to North Carolina.  “Just days away from the Daytona 500, I’m taking the time to rev up our commitment to the motorsports industry, which supports thousands of high-tech jobs in North Carolina,” said Perdue.  “We’ve come a long way since moonshine running turned into a multi-billion dollar industry more than 60 years ago.” 

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Commonwealth Brands Inc., a national manufacturer of tobacco and tobacco products, will expand its operations in Rockingham County.  The company will invest $6.7 million and create 35 jobs in 2010.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $100,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. 

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Solaris Industries Inc., an international manufacturer of steel tubing, will locate a new facility in Cleveland County.  The company plans to invest $3.2 million and create 40 jobs during the next three years in Kings Mountain.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $50,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. 

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that another $755,148 in federal Recovery Act funding for energy efficiency block grants has been awarded to help six local agencies create jobs and save on utility and fuel bills.  The six grants mark the second distribution of money from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program in North Carolina, for a total of nearly $1.5 million to a dozen local agencies.  Additional grants are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as funding applications are reviewed and acted on.

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that ACW Technology, an international manufacturer of digital, analog and radio frequency electronic devices, will open a new facility in Durham County.  The company plans to create 155 jobs and invest $4.9 million in Durham during the next three years.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $50,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

Gov. Bev Perdue announced today that Charlotte-based Celgard LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Polypore International Inc. (NYSE: PPO), will create 289 jobs and invest a total of $91 million in expanded and new infrastructure in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties over the next five years.

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Reser’s Fine Foods, a national producer of prepared foods and salads, will expand its plant to the Halifax Industrial Center in Halifax County.  The company plans to create 500 jobs in three phases over the next five years.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $1 million grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
